I contributed to this production by being the director/producer alongside being the editor, this meant that I had a lot of roles and responsibility. I had to take charge of the productions artistic and dramatic aspects, also visualising the script to help guide the technical crew.
I think the impact our Social Action has is that it appeals to the teenage market & above due to the subject and the age of people used in the production. It raises awareness of the issues around racism such as people judging each other based on colour and that racism can affect any race not just one.
The production is definitely appropriate for our intended target audience, this was achieved in a few methods. One way we made sure it appealed to the intended target audience was that we interviewed and showed people who were the same age as the intended audience, also the locations of a street make it appeal to a wide range as we all are familiar with the urban setting. The use of colours made it look sophisticated and professional which helps appealing to the slightly older audience as well as teenage market. The music we used for the social experiment scene appeals to a wide range of people as it was an upbeat instrumental type music so it's not a distinctive type.
Our final production compared to our original intentions changed massively if not completely. Our original idea was that we we're going to get actors of different ethnicity's & genders having an argument in a busy location to see peoples reactions and if they try to stop the racism or just ignore it and walk by. This was due to the fact that we could not find actors suitable for our production and actors feeling uncomfortable due to the nature of the original script. Also the back up plan of the vox pop was scrapped due to the new idea of interviewing people.
The one thing that was not altered entirely was the idea to stand with a sheet of paper with a question that would show the publics views and opinions on the appearance of race.
we kept to this idea but some changes were made, the first change was the question on the paper originally it was " I am black/white this makes me...?" which then got made to "Do you judge me different because of my skin colour?..." we made this change one because we only had one actor of the specific ethnicity we needed and secondly because it made it more personal towards the actor to get better reactions from the public and an easier question to understand.
When we made the new script the idea was to interview people of the same age as our target market and ask them questions about the issues of racism & then do the social experiment idea we originally indented to do with some slight alterations. After changing and re-finalising the idea it made the production a lot easier and the budget was £0.00 and there was less equipment needed. The new idea made risks decrease a substantial amount as members of public approached us and not the other away around and we stuck to two locations.
I think our techniques were effective as I used similar techniques to successful social action campaigns such as using an interview style and a social experiment to involve the audience more and keep them engaged & show the realist style.
I believe the content was effective as all the points we intended to get across, did successfully and clearly we said it was gong to be no longer than 6 minuets but that changes to 10 minuets as then we would of not been able to get the messages we were trying to get across clearly.
The aesthetic qualities were that the colours went well together and that everything transitioned well together.
If I were to do this again I think I would plan a lot more so then we wouldn't of had to change so much from the original script, and balance the gender more equally as it's quite male dominated.
