inspirational Films:
Final Destination (2000)- After a teenager has a terrifying vision of him and his friends dying in a plane crash, he prevents the accident only to have Death hunt them down, one by one.
I find this inspirational because although it’s ant-realist it’s something that teenagers and young adults could relate too in terms of the situation’s they’re put in, as in crashes and school trips just general everyday things. This horror has a gore & psychological sub-genre, all the deaths are bloody and gory and the film makes the audience think as there is an order to the characters death. Also another thing that I love about the movie is one of the characters Bludworth. He is the channel through which the protagonists gain understanding into the workings or motives of Death, one possibility is that he himself is the personification of Death, made clear in an innocent position where his knowledge and talents would serve best to hide his presence as well as giving him unique access to the minds of the intended targets.

The Blair Witch Project (1999) - Three film students vanish after travelling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.
I find this inspirational because it’s got a documentary style that creates a realistic feel to something that’s unrealistic and tangible in everyday life but still makes you relate, they can’t escape from the woods which shows isolation, this is a typical horror convention. Technical codes this film uses is handheld camera work, I find this effective as I think it promotes the feeling of terror and the unknown as it can be hard for the audience to tell what is happening. High and low angles connotes fear and dominance. ECU shots are used to show fear or horror on a particular victims face. Iconography of this film is the shaky camera style and the Blaire witch symbol:

This horror kept with the classic narrative structure, which is typical for the horror genre but endings can have closures or left for a sequel which this film was left for a sequel. There’s always a hero, a protagonist, a man or ‘final girl’. This horror theme is supernatural as it’s about a witch.
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)
Jesse begins experiencing a number of disturbing and unexplainable things after the death of his neighbour. As he investigates, it isn't long before Jesse finds he's been marked for possession by a malevolent demonic entity, and it's only a matter of time before he is completely under its control...
It’s set in a small residential building situated in Oxnard, California which another typical horror is setting using a small community. This film uses lots of POV shots this helps the audience see what the ghost/monster is seeing. In the framework uses the depth of field to surprise the audience when the ghost is going to show up.

Unfriended (2014)
A group of online chat room friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force using the account of their dead friend.
This is a new genre of horror as it’s based online. Although it’s not set in a conventional place it does keep with the code of loneliness as the people online are all home alone. The camera work uses a lot of ECU’s to show emotions. Also the camera work is different to other horror films as it showing the audience a computer screen the majority of the time so it makes the audience feel like they are involved so I believe it is a POV shot. In one scene they used hand held camera work this was effective as it added to the inclusion of the audience.

Horror Themes:
Horror films focus on the ‘evil side of life’, unusual, unapproved and disturbing events. There are a number of themes and subgenres in horror films to excite, entertain but mostly to scare the audience.
Some themes include:
. Paranormal
. Revenge
. Demons
.exorcism
. Religion
. Gore
. Serial killers
This can then become subgenres such as:
Slasher films- This style of horror typically includes a psychopathic killer stalking, and killing a sequence of victims in a violent approach- frequently with a cutting tool, e.g. an axe or a knife. Slasher films can also coincide with the crime and thriller genre. Examples of this subgenre include The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Scream, Friday the 13th, Childs Play and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Gothic Film – This style of horror has elements of Goth and horror. It may perhaps have romance that progresses inside the horror film, but it’s generally suspenseful. Examples of this subgenre include: The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy, Sleepy Hollow, Underworld, The Woman in Black.
Psychological horror – This style of horror is based on characters terrors, guilt, beliefs, emotional instability and sometimes, the supernatural. This is used to build tension within the film and to expand the plot. Examples of this include The Uninvited, The Exorcist, Session 9, The Others, Stir of Echoes, The Innocents, and The Sixth Sense.
Characters:
The Sex appeal: This role is often occupied by an immoral female, who is generally the first to be killed and are the first to reveal their body. An example includes Paris Hilton in The House of Wax
The Irritating character: This role is often associated with the “sex appeal” and usually the first to go because of their behaviour, the audience is normally pleased when they have been killed off.
The unlikely hero: This character is commonly the one the audience expects to be the antagonist because of their actions or appearance within the film.
The Antagonist: The anti-hero of the film is frequently exposed at the end of the film. They are normally killed off at the end, or in some cases left injured to make space for a potential sequel.
The Protagonist: This is normally a female role, they are commonly the most morally standing and intelligent of the group, they almost always survive in order to make way for a sequel. An example of this would be seen in the Scream franchise; the main character Sidney.

Horror is a film genre seeking to elicit a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on the audience's primal fears. Inspired by literature from authors like Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, and Mary Shelley, horror films have existed for more than a century

Plot Diagram:
Beginning:
A group of 3 film students got leased out the last camera so they could finish their practical work. The small group consisted of 2 boys, one was somewhat dimwitted but enthusiastic and very generous his name was Brayden, whilst the other was stoic, aloof and brooding he was called kai. Lastly there was only one girl in the group named Skylar who was very headstrong and outgoing.
The group go off to film when they notice an SD card already in the camera which is quite unusual as they are not lent out as students are supposed to provide them for themselves. Skylar suggested going to check out what was on the card first rather than going with Brayden's suggestion of just giving it back to the college.
When they get to the edit suite they insert the card into the PC and the click on the DCMI folder and inside was a Quick-Time file, the tape started with a shot of an apartment that zoomed into one of the windows. It was an empty looking room but there were three pictures on the wall and the 3 students stared in shock noticing the pictures on the wall was them, but more disturbingly, words on the wall were appearing on the wall turning it was like they were bleeding through it, it stated that "their time was running out". Brayden was starting to freak out but the others just told him it was probably one of the other students playing a pathetic joke.

Middle:
The next day at college only Kai and Skylar turned up to class. They assumed Brayden had slept in or was too chicken to come in after what they saw, but they started to get worried when he wasn't answering his phone. During class they called his phone again. This time it answered but all they heard was what sounded like a TV with no signal then a small voice saying "tick toc- times ticking". Then one of the students grassed on Kai for having his phone out, Skylar lost her temper shouting at the student who grassed blaming him and accusing them for what they saw and that it's a pathetic prank. So she got sent out, After break Kai was then nowhere to be seen and he wasn't answering either, so she just assumed that the boys were in on some kind of joke so went home to bed.
End:
A week had passed and none of the three students had been in college or in fact anywhere to be seen, the police ad been sent on a search as they had been reported as missing. Their tutor walked in the office but on his desk was the three student's camera on his desk with a note which read "watch me". The tutor inserted the card and they played the Quick-Time file and what they saw for some reason pleased them. It showed an apartment that zoomed on the window to a room with low lighting, in the middle of the room was the 3 student's bodies lying on the floor lifeless with blood smeared writing on the wall saying "times up", the tutor laughed and whispered under his breath "3 students down only a few more to go until my film is complete".

.Kai -To use the footage and claim it as their own work for their production.
Antagonist Goals: To kill off Film students.
.Tutor- To film the killing of the students for their own film.
.Skylar- To uncover who is behind what she believes to be a 'prank'

Action
The characters get close to overcoming the obstacles by almost finding out who is behind the footage but not quite close enough as the end scene will be left open ended to weather they die or survive but the audience do not know once all three students are captured if they have realised who is behind it all.
Tactics & Backstory's
Kai- Brayden & Kai are brothers which is one reason they are very dissimilar. Another reason for their unalike personality's is that they were both homeless due to the fact their mother died when they were younger and as Kai was the oldest it was his duty to take care of Brayden as well as himself. The pressure of struggling to survive forced Kai to criminal activity's to get by, such as stealing. After the death of their mother that is why he is so stoic.
Brayden- Brayden has always has a positive outlook on life even through difficult times and because of this he is enthusiastic, he's always been generous but always cautious plus afraid due to his brothers criminality, and because of his dim-wittedness he never understood his brothers actions.
Skylar- Skylar has had a straightforward upbringing compared to the boys, she used to live with both her mum and dad and grew up with two older brothers, this is probably the reason why she's so headstrong and likes to be independent as she didn't want her brothers to be so protective.

Stakes
-For the three teenagers mainly their lives are at steak, with no one to save them, but not only their lives so are the rest of their class potentially in the future.
-For the antagonist being the tutor, if they get caught with their evil plans, they will miss out winning the massive money prize from the dark website running these competitions, but ultimately will end up in jail and loose everything.
